2018 New Year Honours for UC alumni
Several University of Canterbury alumni, including a former parliamentarian and a former UC fine arts lecturer, have been recognised in the 2018 New Year Honours List.
Among the list of distinguished alumni is former leader of the United Future party, The Honourable Peter Dunne, of Wellington, who was made a Companion of the New Zealand Order of Merit (CNZM) for services as a Member of Parliament. Mr Dunne earned a BA followed by an MA in Political Science from UC in the 1970s.
A former UC Fine Arts lecturer was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM): Julia Morison for services to visual arts. UC alumna Ms Morison was a Senior Lecturer in Painting at the University of Canterbury’s School of Fine Art, a position she held until 2007.
UC alumni to become Members of the New Zealand Order of Merit (MNZM) included: Cameron Moore for services to the manufacturing industry and the community; Mark Stewart for services to the community and sport; Maureen Truman, for services to education; and Graeme Wallis for services to music.
Receiving The Queen's Service Medal (QSM) were: UC alumnus Philip Craigie for services to music, and former UC staff member Lorraine Logan, also for services to music.
