Lincoln University Media Alert: Batting around Banks Peninsula

Lincoln University summer scholar Karina Hadden is preparing to comb Banks Peninsula for long-tailed bats and hopes members of the public can help with possible sightings.

• The last long-tailed bat recorded on Banks Peninsula was in 1963 but there have been potential sightings in recent years.

• Monitors will be placed at a range of sites in the area and collected for processing after two weeks.

• The project is a joint one between the University, the Department of Conservation, the Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust and the Christchurch City Council.

• Locals are also asked to report any potential bat sightings to the Department of Conservation at mpryde@doc.govt.nz
