10 finalists named in UC’s annual $75,000 Entre Awards

Ten teams have been named as finalists in the University of Canterbury’s annual $75,000 Dragon’s Den style Entre Awards to be held at the Undercroft on campus on October 9.

As well as naming a $75,000 winner on the night, the winner of the best Apps Challenge will also be named.

Entre is a student-run company at the University of Canterbury (UC) which encourages entrepreneurial spirit among UC students. Entre's 75K Challenge had 56 entrants who all presented their business proposals for the competition, twice as many as last year.

The 10 finalists advanced through the recent qualifying phase with judges from the ANZ Bank, Price Waterhouse Coopers and Powerhouse.

The Apps competition challenges students to design the most useful mobile phone App. Out of 155 entries, three finalists have been chosen.

The winner will be named at a gala award next week and their App will be created for the public to access. Chief executive of Tradevine Peter Montgomery will be awards’ guest speaker.

The 10 finalists are:

• Ecommute - Pamela Wang, Lu Lu, Pip Widdon, Louisa Mcilroy, Serena Sii
• Alga Biopro Ltd - Neha Chandraskeran, Swami Detchanamurthy, Tejraj Janmale
• Hobby Stiller - Peter Greer
• INoMA Furniture - Jonothan Love, Darryl Jacobsen, Richard Lorgelly, Antonia Lozano Ortiz, Sandy Qiu
• Euphoria Wake Park Ltd - Todd Rabbit
• FODAPP - Courteney Johnston, Anna Porter
• AppointMe - James Moore, Thomas Harding
