Free lectures on global economic crisis
The context and opportunities around the global economic crisis are at the heart of a series of free public lectures starting this month at the University of Waikato.
Half of the guest speakers are Waikato University alumni, including former Telecom head Theresa Gattung, former ASB Chief Economist Anthony Byett and NZ Super Fund head Adrian Orr.
The Winter Lecture Series runs for six weeks, beginning on Wednesday August 26 with Ms Gattung speaking about authenticity as an outcome of the economic crisis. Ms Gattung is now the chair of Wool Partners International.
She is followed on September 2 by former ASB Chief Economist Anthony Byett who now runs his own blog fxmatters. He speaks on: The NZ Dollar: Its Role in Coping with the Global Economic Crisis and the Influence of the Crisis on its Future.
On September 9 the speaker is Ralph Lattimore, a senior fellow at the New Zealand Institute for Economic Research, and an adjunct professor at Victoria University. He looks at: The New World Trade Architecture: Looking Through the Global Recession.
Global Financial Challenges and their Implications for New Zealand is the title of NZ Superannuation Fund CEO Adrian Orr’s lecture on September 16. Mr Orr was previously the Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank.
Selwyn Parker, the author of The Great Crash, speaks on September 23 about: The Global Economic Crisis of 2009 and the Great Depression of Last Century.
