University of Otago - New Pro-Chancellor Elected

The University Council has elected Stuart McLauchlan as its new Pro-Chancellor. Mr McLauchlan replaces John Ward, who has been appointed as Chancellor. The role of the Pro-Chancellor includes chairing the University Council in the Chancellor’s absence and serving on committees on behalf of the Chanc
ellor.

Mr McLauchlan lives in Dunedin, where he is a managing partner of the chartered accountancy firm, G S McLauchlan and Co. He holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Otago and is a member of the Institute of Directors. He was appointed a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants earlier this year.

He is the Chairman of Scott Technology Limited, the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame, the Highlanders Rugby Trust and the Otago Community Hospice Trust. He serves as a Director on the boards of AD Instruments Limited, Aurora Energy, Delta Utility Services, Dunedin International Airport, and Scenic Circle Hotels. Mr McLauchlan has been a member of the University Council since 2004. He is a member of the Investment Committee, the Finance and Budget Committee and Chair of the Audit Committee. He is also a Director of the University of Otago Foundation Studies. Mr McLauchlan will begin his new role in January 2009.
