Students' to take Debt to the Streets
Wednesday, 9th April 2008
With student debt about to reach ten billion dollars in total, students from Victoria University and around the Wellington region are marching on Parliament.
Student debt reaches a record of $10 billion dollars tomorrow, Thursday, 10th April and in response to that, students' from all over the Wellington region will be marching on Parliament.
VUWSA President, Joel Cosgrove feels that "It's hard to convince people that you're not pulling their leg when you say students owe ten billion dollars on student loans, the attitudes' of both past and present governments is just as hard to believe.".
Victoria University Students' will be leaving the Quad (outside the Library on Kelburn Parade) at 1pm and marching to Parliament via Willis St and Ghuznee St, where they will meet students marching from Massey Wellington.
Students from a host of other tertiary institutions will also be at the protest including Weltec, Whitirea and Otaki Runanga students.
At Parliament speeches are expected from one of the two NZUSA Co-Presidents, Liz Hawes and Paul Falloon. As well as speeches from a number of student leaders.
