Labour candidate selected for Tamaki Community Board by-election

Labour Party members from the Tamaki ward have confirmed 25-year-old Arna Metcalfe as the Labour candidate for the Tamaki Community Board by-election to be held from late July to mid-August this year.
Arna is a resident of the Tamaki-Maungakiekie ward and teaches English at McAuley Girls High School in Otahuhu. Arna has a Bachelor of Arts degree with Honours from the University of Auckland and has taught at McAuley since she graduated with her teaching diploma in 2003.
Arna is one of the Tongan group coordinators for Polyfest and has started a branch of Amnesty International at the school. Arna is a mentor for the YWCA Future Leaders programme (a youth mentoring programme for young women)and has mentored numerous students at McAuley.
Arna is excited about the chance to stand for Labour in the by-election for the Tamaki Community Board. "I am interested in establishing stronger connections within different community groups and developing a safe and vibrant Tamaki community.
"I am dedicated to the development of the Otahuhu recreation precinct in the Mason Ave Park and will work hard to ensure the swimming pool and the library are developed by the City Council as outlined in the draft Long Term Council Community Plan."
Kate Sutton, Tamaki Community Board Chair, is thrilled to have someone as capable and experienced as Arna running as part of the team.
"We currently have a committed and competent Labour team working hard for Tamaki and we hope that the community will support Arna to make our team stronger."
