British PM Address to NZ Climate Change Conference

Time of British PM's Address to NZ Climate Change Conference Confirmed Climate Change and Governance Conference - Wellington, March 28-29

British Prime Minister, the Rt Hon Tony Blair, will speak, via interactive video link from Auckland, to the multidisciplinary conference on Climate Change & Governance: Critical Issues for New Zealand & the Pacific, at 9.30 am on 29 March.

Prime Minister Tony Blair will talk for half an hour and will take questions from both the media and conference participants.

The session will be simultaneously webcast. A media advisory giving the web address to access the webcast will be available on Monday afternoon.

The conference, one of the most important of its kind ever held in New Zealand, will be held at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa on 28 and 29 March. It is being organised by Victoria University's Institute of Policy Studies and the School of Earth Sciences.

The keynote speaker is distinguished geologist and former chair of Shell UK, Lord Ron Oxburgh http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3815151.stm , who said, in 2004, that he sees "little hope for the world" unless carbon dioxide emissions are dealt with.

The first day of the conference opens with the scientific evidence regarding climate change, assessing the risks and its impact on health, water, biodiversity, food and the marine environment in New Zealand and the Pacific. The second day examines the policy issues and options.
