John Smith, an attorney with the US Department of Justice specialising in anti-terrorism measures and an Ian Axford (New Zealand) Fellow, will discuss his project tracing the evolution of New Zealand’s anti-terrorism and emergencies laws through to the present and their similarities and differences with various other systems throughout the world. He will also discuss the role of the UN in the counter-terrorism process and the potential effect on civil liberties of the New Zealand laws.
