Victoria appoints Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic)
Professor Deborah Willis has been appointed as the Assistant Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Victoria University.
In announcing the appointment, Acting Vice-Chancellor Professor David Mackay, says Professor Willis has held the AVC position in an acting capacity through 2002 - 2003 on secondment from her role as Director of the University Teaching Development Centre.
“The next two years at Victoria will be demanding as we bed in the academic reviews programme and prepare for the next academic audit,” says Professor Mackay.
“I am delighted that Professor Willis will be able to lead these activities and continue as the Chair of Academic Board and a valued member of the University’s Senior Management Team."
As AVC (Academic), Professor Willis is the convenor of the Academic Board and is responsible for University-wide academic policy.
Professor Willis says she is looking forward to the challenges of her role, which includes encouraging the implementation of the University’s learning and teaching plan and supporting Victoria’s continued commitment to providing high quality research led teaching.
Professor Willis has worked in the education field for more than 20 years. During that time she has been a Senior Lecturer in Victoria’s School of Education specialising in curriculum, assessment and evaluation issues and the Director of the University Teaching Development Centre.
She is a member of the National Tertiary Teaching Excellence Awards committee and represents Victoria University on the NZVCC’s Committee on University Academic Programmes (CUAP).
