International Talent Quest Back In Town

The International Talent Quest has returned to Dunedin for a fourth year after three previous successful years. This year the Talent Quest will be held at the Glenroy Auditorium on Saturday the13th of April from 7.30pm.

The International Talent Quest is run as a competition, however the aim is to promote different cultures from the multicultural groups of students at the University of Otago. The categories are 'Body Art' and 'Melody of Art'. Performances include Traditional Dance, Modern Dance, musical instrumental, and singing. The candidates are mainly Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Korean, Malaysian, Singaporean, and Taiwanese.

"This event is a great opportunity for different cultural groups to show their own culture to Dunedin city and raise the profile of international students in New Zealand," said Jim Chai, the Otago University Students' Association International Students Officer.

"This will be a promising night to see fantastic performances from different nations and cultures as well as having a superb traditional food from Tokyo Garden, Friendly Khmer Satay Noodles House and Ananda Indian Restaurant," said Mr Chai. Tickets are on sale now from the OUSA Office and Clubs and Societies Building. Pre-Sales are $5, door sales will be $8 and all children under 12 will be free.

This event is one of the major events run by International Student Officer Jim Chai with the help of the International Students' Council, which comprises of different cultural association on campus. This event is proudly sponsored by The University Book Shop, House of Travel, KiaOra Phone Company, Paris Texas, Yak and Yeti's, Obelisk and Tokyo Garden.

The International Students' Council from Otago University Students' Association organises many events throughout the year including the International Festival Week in August. “Our aim is to promote the diverse and multicultural environment within Dunedin and at the same time work towards the elimination of racism and intolerance from the city.” said Mr Chai.
